Yoga Inspiration for Instructors and a Self Yoga Practice
I am often inspired by poets and passages that I read and then I create my yoga theme for that class around it. Here is one I used for the holidays inspired by the writer - Caro Kocel!
Do Less, Be More
A Yoga Theme
The holidays, this time of year there is so much to do. Lists, parties, people, etc…etc… everyone TO DO list is different but all seems to start overflowing around this time. And we feel it. We all feel it.
As I started to plan my Thanksgiving morning power and restore class. My mind immediately starting racing with all the repetitions we could add and poses we can slip in between the normal sequence of poses. I found cliche quotes on gratitude and Thanksgiving themed ideas - I even saw people do a turkey pose:)
Then as I was taking another instructor's power class where we slowed everything down, the theme came to me. DO LESS. We all need to DO less. I don’t mean we need to stay home and lay on the couch and be anti-social. We need to not fall in the MORE game during this time. MORE food, MORE shopping, MORE things, MORE get togethers, MORE MORE MORE. What if we did LESS?
Do Less not More
Do Less so you can be MORE
MORE Silence when you need it
MORE taking up space with yourself not things
MORE Listening
MORE Breathing
MORE holding a safe space for people
MORE seeing what is around you right now
MORE acknowledgement where you are on your journey at this very moment
When we fill our lives with too much TODO’s we have less space to BE MORE.
Don’t get me wrong, Doing less doesn’t mean taking the easy route - it sometimes is harder for us to DO LESS than more. So during this practice we will listen, breathe loud, make space in our bodies and minds and take the time to make room for you to be MORE today for yourself, for anyone you encounter, for whatever your tasks are today - hopefully you will be able to step back and not let the TODO list take over.
So just by being in this space for the next - minutes on Thanksgiving day you have chosen to put the todo list aside, and do less in order to be more.
Want less
Satisfy more
Do less
Mean more
Be More
